The trio were arrested in a dramatic manner late yesterday and then
rather oddly, released after giving their statements. All 3 men are due
to be charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 over
speeches they made between 8.55pm and 11.15pm at the KL Selangor Chinese
Assembly Hall on May 13, 2013.
Student activist Muhammad Safwan Anang, who was also at the same forum, is also due to be charged for the same purported offense.
All four men pleaded not guilty. Tian, Tamrin and Haris posted bail and were free. However Safwan, after consulting his wife, will remain under remand until Friday.
No wonder Umno lost the popular vote
Human rights activist Hishamuddin Rais, whom the police are believed to have issued a warrant of arrest for, is due to 'surrender himself' at 10.30am according to sources. Hishammuddin had also given a speech at the forum.
Outside the courtroom are a crowd of supporters from the activists and NGO community including Auntie Bersih. The media is also out in full force.
"To me, this is a stupid move by a regime that proves why it failed to win the popular vote. For the first time since 1969, Umno-BN lost the popular and it still doesn't learn its lesson," MP for Wangsa Maju Tan Kee Kwong told Malaysia Chronicle.
He had come to show his support for his "comrades". Also present is MP for Lembah Pantai Nurul Izzah.
